WHAT YOU NEEDTo create and publish web pages to your web server, you need to know your account information on Parker. (Parker is the name of the primary web server that services the College of Geosciences.) You need to know your directory location, username and password. If you haven't been provided with this info, please contact your web administrator. This document is intended for use with WS_FTP and Microsoft Word. MICROSOFT WORDTo begin your new web page, open Word. It will automatically have a blank page ready for you with a white background. You can change the background color by clicking on Format, then Background. Word works like a word processor: type text, then go back and highlight sections of it to apply formatting. To add a hyperlink to your web page, select (highlight) the text that you want to be "clickable" and then click on the Link Button. A new window will pop up called Insert Hyperlink, in which you enter
the URL web address or single file name that you want to link to. INSERT STELLATo insert a graph from Stella, open the "stm" file in Stella. Copy the graph by clicking on Edit then Copy (or CTRL + C). Then go to your web page in MS Word, position the cursor where you want the graph placed, and click on Edit then Paste (or CTRL + V). The graph is now a separate graphic within your Word web page. FINISHINGWhen your web page is ready, save it to disk and remember which folder it's in. Open your FTP program, connect to your web space on Parker, and upload the page you just created. (See Publishing for more information on uploading files.) YOUR WEB ADDRESSYour web address (also known as a URL) will almost always be at the following location: http://geosciences.ou.edu/~username Where "username" is your actual log-on username in lowercase letters. INDEX (HOME) PAGEYour home page should be named either index.html or index.htm so that
internet browsers will automatically load it when someone looks at your
main directory. PUBLISHINGThe Session Profile screen will pop up first when you open WS_FTP. Fill in the fields with the address for Parker and your own personal log in information. Then click OK. UploadingUse the green up arrow at the top of each column to move up your directory structure to find the folder with your web files. Double-click a directory folder to open it. To upload a file, select / highlight it in the left-hand column (Local System) and either drag-n-drop it into the right column (Remote System), or click on the right-arrow button located between the two columns. DownloadingTo download a file, select / highlight it in the right-hand column (Remote
System) and either drag-n-drop it into the left column (Local System),
or click on the left-arrow button located between the two columns. CONCLUSIONIf you have any further questions, please contact the GCN at webmaster@gcn.ou.edu. Thanks.
